People who know Samuel Taylor tend to smile more.
This is especially true at Wellspring. As a recurring donor, volunteer, fundraiser, and influencer, Samuel is always there with a dose of support and encouragement for Wellspring staff, and for the thousands of children and families we serve each year.
Raised to believe in the importance of philanthropy and empathy, Samuel has always valued being an active member of the community. But when he was first introduced to Wellspring Family Services at our Powerful Change luncheon in 2013, the courageous story of former client Hortencia and her young son, Max, immediately ignited his desire to help.
“I’ve always been a big community supporter, but I was especially drawn to Wellspring because of the opportunities they provide for children and families who have experienced severe trauma,” Samuel shares. I’ll never forget sitting in my seat that afternoon at the luncheon, listening to Hortencia’s words, and knowing right away that I had to get involved.”
And since that spring day, Samuel has done just that--spreading his contagious enthusiasm and marketing ingénue to help change lives. Over the past two years, Samuel has shared his time, treasure, network, and professional knowledge to rocket-launch Wellspring’s mission in the community.
In 2013, Samuel dedicated his participation in the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic to the homeless children in Wellspring’s Early Learning Center. As he trained for the 200-mile, single-day ride, he invited his family, friends, and colleagues to join the effort, raising more than $5,700 for Wellspring programs. Off his bike, Samuel has led numerous donation drives, rallying his friends and colleagues to collect tangible essentials like winter wear, hygiene items, and pajamas to support children and families experiencing homelessness. Most recently, he engaged his colleagues at Room & Board in our Ready to Learn campaign to help send homeless children back-to-school feeling confident and prepared.
“I’ve seen firsthand how my support can impact Wellspring’s services,” Samuel shares. “Knowing just how much my efforts affect the work they are able to do for families and children in crisis inspires me to continually stay involved with Wellspring, and to show those around me that positive, permanent change for families really is possible if we work – and give - together.”
We are constantly amazed by the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that Samuel contributes to Wellspring’s mission, and we are honored to recognize him as our 2014 Distinguished Service Award Recipient. Congratulations, Samuel, and our sincere thanks for all that you have done—and continue to do—to help children and families in crisis win their resilience and reach their full potential.
