Agency Highlights
- Family Services work is reorganized and streamlined, with focus on three primary service areas: Mental Health Counseling, Homelessness and Family Stabilization, and Community Violence Prevention.
- 1990 — Ruthann Howell is chosen as CEO/President.
- 1991 — Cancer Lifeline becomes an independent agency again; Evergreen Stroke Association leaves Family Services to become part of Easter Seals Society.
- 1992 — Multicultural Counseling Service begins in Rainier Valley.
- 1994 — Traveler Aid Society merges with Family Services to become Transitional Assistance Program for homeless individuals and families.
- 1994 — A program starts with one storage closet and a good idea! The Baby Boutique opens to provide free diapers and essential tangible items for homeless families with infants and young children.
- 1996 — The Resident Assistance Program and other programs combine to become Resident Choices, with focus on removing emotional and mental health barriers to housing stability & employment for public-housing residents.
- 1997 — Family Services begins offering support groups for new parents through our Listening Mothers program.
- 1997 — Family Services becomes a state-licensed mental health agency to treat low-incomes clients.
