Agency Highlights

  • The agency continues to focus on counseling in many forms: individuals, couples, family, and group. There is a growing emphasis on advocacy and "helping clients in their dealings with malfunctioning social institutions." New programs come into the agency such as the Evergreen Stroke Association.
  • 1974 — The agency changes its name to Family and Child Services of Metropolitan Seattle to acknowledge our wider geographical reach.
  • 1975 — Family Life Education program begins offering classes & workshops on parent effectiveness, marriage enrichment, communication skills, "coping with the unemployment blues," and other topics.
  • 1975 — Merger with Cancer Lifeline, formerly an independent organization.
  • 1977 — The agency focus expands to include domestic violence in cooperation with other agencies in the Family Violence Project coalition. The Family Anger Management Institute becomes an agency program.
  • 1978 — The agency begins providing Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, with Xerox Corporation as the first client company.
