Agency Highlights
- 1905 — The agency hires a nurse to help tuberculosis patients. This work is eventually spun off as the Visiting Nurses Service.
- 1907 — The agency changes its name to the Charity Organization of Seattle. The agency work emphasizes self-support and begins to focus on understanding the causes of alcoholism, poverty, and personal or family problems.
- 1908 — The agency adds legal aid service and advocates for shelters for homeless men.
- 1909-1921 — The agency manages the "Confidential Exchange" which registered all requests for assistance in Seattle.

- The shape of Seattle is changing with the Denny Regrade, Harbor Island, and other major public projects. At the same time there is a coal-mining boom in Southeast King County.
- Frederick Weyerhaeuser purchases 1,406 square miles of timberland in Washington State.
- Interurban streetcar service begins between Seattle, Tacoma and Renton.
